The idea of a competitive single screen multiplayer stealth game may sound like the stuff of science fiction, but Hidden in Plain Sight is able to get the job done thanks to its clever mode design. Players must be able to act in a stealthy manner amongst decoys while completing their objective. Ninja Party, Death Race and other modes are the most challenging. They all have a different way of achieving this goal while still ensuring that there is always a danger.

While some of the weaker modes do lack that oomph that pushes players to actually want to risk revealing themselves, there’s enough variation within Hidden in Plain Sight to keep it entertaining for a few rounds at least. For example, it’s possible to tinker with the speed at which characters move around the screen and the number of smoke bombs that are dropped. These do help shake up the gameplay somewhat but don’t necessarily make up for the fact that certain modes like Knights vs. Ninjas can essentially be solved or that the pace in Death Race allows players to just run to the end without any need for deception.
